Speak The Word Only
The officer responded, “Sir, I don't deserve to have you come into my house. But just give a command, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8:8.
This man was an officer in the Roman army. We could say that he was a commander of a battalion of soldiers in the occupation forces. Any one knows that an officer in this position calls the tune, but he had a need and it wasn't even a need of his own. One of his servants was sick and there was no cure. I guess that he was one step short of being a slave, so the officer could easily have glossed over it and ignored the man's plight.
He did what any sensible person should do and that was to go to the only real source of help. Sure doctors do wonderful jobs and I visit my physician when necessary, but there are times when no amount of medical science can help.
What does one do when faced with an impossible situation?
This commander risked a lot to even approach Jesus as he did, but went to the source.
When you are faced with an impossible situation, go to the source.
He presented his case. Present your case.
He asked for help. You ask for help.
He made an immediate declaration, calling Jesus Lord, which He is.
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. Matthew 8:5-6 (emphasis mine). You too need to make such a declaration, because that gets God's attention.
Immediately, Jesus said that He would help.
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. Matthew 8:7.
You do not need to beg and plead; wait for some kind of answer; do any form of penance or service, because God is always ready to come to our aid... always!
This man knew about authority. He was a ranking officer and knew that when he gave an order... people jumped. He recognised authority, which in this case was a far higher authority than his and did not need anything else from the Lord than a spoken directive.
My friend, all you really need is a word from the Lord. Whatever your need may be; no matter how hellish your situation, God has a word for it that will produce answers. You've got to trust Him of course and you may need to search for what that word is, but it is there. Somewhere between the index page and the maps at the end of my bible are God breathed; God inspired; creative words. When He speaks... things happen, so, Lord... Speak the Word only and it will be done as you have commanded.
